UPDATE: NIko has joined the Cell Dog Program. During this program he will be trained by selected inmates who will be overseen by a professional dog trainer. He will attend classes to learn more about house training, basic obedience and some fun tricks too! Nikocan be visited and even adopted while he is in the Cell Dog program.

Woof! I'm called Niko, and I'm a purebred chocolate lab who is in need of new and forever home. I love people and I am also enjoying the company of the felines here at my foster home. I do tend to see young people as play things and I may nibble on their toes and fingers if I get too bored and am looking for attention, so a home without small children would be best for me. Other than that, I'm a pretty well-behaved guy, but I am pretty big and really just an adolescent still, so I can get into some mischief sometimes. I am looking for someone to make sure I get the attention and exercise that I need, and maybe even teach me how to walk on a leash without pulling. I know I'd be a fast learner, so maybe we could take an obedience class together? I am housetrained, up to date on all my shots, and heartworm negative. So I guess the only thing left is to find me the perfect family to take me home with them. I hope it's soon!

Update: Niko is learning to walk on a leash using a Gentle Leader. He still tries to pull and jump but is getting much better. Off leash, Niko likes to fetch and run. He is mindful of his boundaries until he gets bored and then he will be off and running. Caution should be used when introducing him to other dogs as he can be a little overbearing at times.
