  • Species: Dog
  • General Color: Yellow
  • Housetrained: Yes
Hobie the Love Bug is waiting for a forever home!  This sweet guy just wants to find someone to love him as much as he certainly will love in return.  He is great with kids and cats too!  He enjoys the company of other dogs - espcecially females or other easy-going males.  He loves to be with you in the car, on the beach (as you can see from the picture on a recent field trip), taking long walks, or just hanging out at home.  He just wants to be with you, preferably laying on your feet!  He is just PERFECT!  Take a chance on Hobie and give HIM a second chance at a safer, better life than one he's known.

Hobie is currently living on a small island in the Caribbean, under the care of the Animal Welfare group that works with Rose's Rescue.  We are hoping to get Hobie up here in the next couple of week so you can meet him in person.  He is a very, very sweet neutered male that is approximately 2 years old and weighs around 45 pounds.

The life of an island dog may sound footloose and fancy free, but in reality is very difficult and dangerous.  Hobie is lucky that he has been taken in, since now he doesn't have to try to find his own food and fresh water and he also doesn't have to worry about his safety around other stray dogs.  Unfortunately other dogs aren't the only risk for island strays.  A local "custom" involves purposefully poisoning animals that some residents may call a nuisance.  Stray animals fall into this category as they are running loose and can go in anyone's yard, sometimes going to the bathroom there.  Sadly, this happens with some regularity to island dogs and cats, even those with owners that are allowed to run free.  This year has been a difficult one as a good number of dogs and cats, some with owners, have already lost their lives this way.

Life with an adopted island dog is one of the most rewarding experiences a pet owner can have.  They tend to be some of the most loyal, smart dogs out there, and witnessing their transition from street dog to family pet is a rewarding experience in itself.  Please consider helping Hobie or one of his island brethren (Rosa, Richard & Bonita).  If you would like more information, please feel free to contact us.  Thank you!

***UPDATE:  As you may have seen, Rosa is no longer on our website.  Unfortunately she is the most recent victim to lose her life to poison.  Richard and Bonita have been lucky enough to be adopted!  Please help one of our island friends!
